Web design in İzmir — for manufacturers and exporters.
İZMİR EXPORTS · 2025
According to data from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), companies with their registered office in İzmir exported 13.60 billion dollars in 2025, placing İzmir at number 5 of 81 provinces.
The three largest export categories: Chemicals and Chemical Products (15.6%), Ready-to-Wear and Apparel (9.3%), Steel (7.3%).
The three largest markets: Germany (10.4%), USA (8.1%), Italy (5.6%). The languages of those markets are the first input for deciding which languages an export website is built in.

İZMİR · EXPORTER WEBSITES
From the first 30 named manufacturers and exporters registered in İzmir on TİM’s 2025 Top 1000 Exporters list, we measured the websites of the 23 firms that have their own site on September 23, 2026. The figures below come from the home pages of the 23 sites that responded:
- Declaring more than one language with hreflang — 8/23
- Enforcing secure connections with HSTS — 5/23
- Carrying structured data (JSON-LD) — 5/23
- Explicitly disallowing AI crawlers in robots.txt — 0/23
- Blocking AI crawlers at the server (while open to ordinary crawlers) — 2/23
- Having an llms.txt file — 1/23
Company names are not published; the global sites of group companies are not counted. The measurement was taken at a single moment from a single location, using only the home page, robots.txt and llms.txt. A site that is multilingual without using hreflang appears monolingual in this measure; the figure is a lower bound. The method is the same as the Measurement Observatory’s.
WEBSITES FOR İZMİR’S INDUSTRY
Chemicals: documents on the page, not inside a PDF
For chemical products, buyers want the safety data sheet and conformity documents alongside the technical specifications. The document can remain a downloadable file, but each product’s name, area of use and document link should sit on its own product page: the buyer finds the product by searching for it, and the search engine recognizes the product at its own address. The reasoning behind this decision is in the comparison product catalog: PDF or web page.
A multi-market city, a multilingual site
İzmir’s top five markets are Germany, the US, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom — four different languages. Which language opens first is chosen by where sales come from; the architecture, however, is multilingual from day one, so a new language is an addition rather than a rebuild. Each language has its own address, its own hreflang cluster and text written for its own search demand: what is hreflang.
Apparel: the collection changes, the site does not
In apparel the products change season by season; the site should not be rebuilt every season. When product family, variant and collection are built as separate axes, a new season is a content update. Speed is measured separately on these image-heavy pages, because large product images are one of the most common causes of slowness — site speed optimization.
For buyers in the US
The US is İzmir’s second-largest market. Buyers there look at the site from another continent and over another network; having the page open quickly at that distance is not a design preference but a matter of access. A static build and distributed delivery shorten that distance; this site itself runs on a contract to keep the main content time, measured on the live address with a real Chrome browser, under 0.8 seconds.
HOW WE WORK
In every city the process runs through the same four steps: product and document inventory, product architecture, build in the target market’s language, quote flow and measurement. The steps are detailed on the B2B websites page; this page covers only what is specific to the city’s own industry. The studio is in Istanbul and the work runs remotely: the discovery call, drafts and handover proceed through video meetings and written reports.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
How do you work with companies in İzmir?
From discovery to handover the work proceeds remotely: video meetings, shared drafts and a written report at the end of each stage. The studio is in Istanbul; on-site meetings are arranged when needed.
-
How should chemical product documents be presented on a website?
Each product has its own page; the safety data sheet, technical data sheet and certificate are downloaded from that page, which states the document’s name, language and last update date. The document itself can stay a PDF; what matters is that the product and the document sit on a searchable page.
-
How many languages should we start with?
With the language of the market your sales come from. Most exporters start with English and the language of their largest market; because the architecture is multilingual, later languages join the same skeleton.
-
Why might our website not be showing up on Google?
The most common technical causes: robots.txt blocking crawling, a noindex on the page, the canonical address pointing to another page and the page missing from the sitemap. If there is no technical barrier, the cause is usually content and external links.
